You are about to be let in on a huge secret with the basic way to remove pet blemishes, coke spills, any urine blemish or basically any liquid that could be in your carpet upholstery or area rug. So you can see right here, this is a picture of a woman who is bring out something usually dry soil from an automobile which wet vacuums work great for things like that, but the thing that people fail to realize is that for any drink spill, a wet vacuum also known as the shock vacuum or its great to remove any amount of liquid from any fabric.
What most people do is a drink spill happens, the dog goes to the bathroom on the carpet and they grab for a big towel or a stack of paper towels. Well these, all this does was mash, the paper towel mashes the liquid into the back of the padding, well with a wet vacuum it works against gravity by actually pulling the liquid through the vacuum up out of the backing and out of the pad instead of mashing it down into the pad and as you can see right here, it can obviously be used on tile as well but carpet and upholstery is something that hardly anybody thinks of using it on. So the best thing to do the next time your dog goes to the bathroom on the carpet or the next time one of your kids or grand kids spills a bottle of soda or milk or anything on the carpet is to grab for your wet vacuum. Now what I recommend that you do is get a smaller wet vacuum like this one right here. The smaller that it is that it’s the easier ones to be able to grab out of the closet.
So the smaller ones you can usually purchase for anywhere between $30 and maybe $50 or $60 usually anywhere from one gallon to two and a half gallons is sufficient and I recommend the smaller ones because the larger ones are just bigger and bulkier, you are lot less likely to grab a huge machine out of the closet and try to lug that around than this little simple machine, as you can see, its just easy to just take and just make portable all you need is an electrical cord. And they even make some wet vacs that are rechargeable that you can just recharge into the wall, now keep in mind those don’t have quite as good of a battery powered, those type of things don’t have quite as good of a vacuum. So something that actually plugs in the wall is going to give you a little bit more power.
So after you extract the liquid, the urine, the soda whatever it is, after you extract it out of the backing, and out of the carpet or the rug or the upholstery, then is when you want to take and treat the area with your spot remover. Now don’t make the mistake of doing what almost everybody else does is doing it backwards. So if you walk up to a urine stain or some type of a stain inside of the carpet and you start treating it with the bottle of spot remover, now all you have is the urine stain puddle with some spot remover removed and put into it. What spot removers are made for is to remove what’s left behind. So the wet vacuum is going to work miracles, its going to be able to get out most of the problem and then you use the spot remover for whatsoever left behind and if it’s a urine stain, I recommend that you just get a simple enzyme usually at a pet store or your local carpet cleaning company can recommend a good enzyme for you.
If it’s a coke spill or some type of a sugar based stain which you want to use is a neutral pH detergent. Typically don’t recommend something like resolve because that’s usually higher in residue and higher pH but a good neutral pH detergent is going to work for you, sometimes even taking a little bit of non suds-ing Dawn or a standard hand dish washing soap as long as its not a very sudsy type and just mixing that with a lot of water and then usually only that teaspoon inside of the coat. Mixed with a coat of water will do the trick and is using that over the area then even extracting the area after you treat it with a spot remover, again with the wet vacuum, remember the wet vacuum is going to be the thing that actually pulls the soil out of the fabric pulls the soil out of the fabric.
What pulls the soil out of the fabric isn’t the spot remover it’s the wet vacuum, the spot remover just helps to liquidate and basically helps to, the wet vacuum to be able to work and do its job in removing the spot.
So the next time you have a spot grab for your wet vacuum and remove it, it will work wonders and if you can’t get the stain out, just call your local carpet cleaning company they can do a lot of things that you won’t be able to do yourself and it will be a lot cheaper than replacing your carpet.
